Modern organizations often face challenges with fragmented data models and inconsistent structures. Versioning databases, schemas, tables, and views can quickly lead to confusion, redundant work, and errors.

By adopting structured governance practices, Astrato ensures:

  • Consistency: Unified data structures across environments.

  • Clarity: Simplified version management for schemas and views.

  • Collaboration: Clear roles and responsibilities for team members.

Examples:

  1. An enterprise with multiple departments, each using different data models for reporting, leading to mismatched insights. Governance creates a single source of truth.

  2. A data business managing database versions for development, testing, and production—centralized controls prevent accidental updates or misalignment.

In Astrato, Environments are created using Collections.

Recommended Data Connection & Data View Setup

  • Designers cannot edit the Data View to maintain governance.

  • Each collection environment should have a dedicated Data View for clarity and organization. Examples:

    • Marketing_Benchmarking_DEV

    • Marketing_Benchmarking_UAT

    • Marketing_Benchmarking_PROD (hidden from end-users).

  • A single Data View can serve multiple Workbooks.
