The idea is simple: the same trusted numbers behind your Astrato dashboards land in your spreadsheet as real Excel formulas. You build your workbook once, and next month you just hit Refresh instead of exporting and re-keying all over again.

The words you’ll see
A few terms come up throughout — here’s what they mean in plain English:
Connection — your link to Astrato (which environment, and your sign-in). It lives with you, in your Office settings, never inside the workbook you share.
Semantic layer — your Astrato data model. It’s where the dimensions, measures and fields you pick come from.
Dataset — a saved query you build once and reuse. It has a name, and you pull it into the sheet by that name.
Variable — a workbook value, usually tied to a cell, so a cell in your sheet can drive what a dataset returns.
Parameter — a value you pass to a measure for a single formula, to override how it calculates.
Cached data — the result of your last refresh, saved inside the workbook, so your numbers are still there offline and for anyone you share the file with.
Refresh mode — the setting that decides how live each dataset is. Its three values are Refresh manual, Refresh when no data exist, and Refresh always.
